Introduction to Botox, Nuceiva, Xeomin and Dysport Treatments

As we begin to age, the skin undergoes many changes that end up producing lines and wrinkles. Muscle movement under the skin is one of the biggest reasons we develop prominent lines and wrinkles on our face and body.

Our team uses a combination of established products and proven techniques to reduce the prominence of wrinkles and lines. For example, Dysport is used to prevent current static lines from getting deeper, as well as the formation of new lines.

What Is Botox® Cosmetic, Nuceiva, Xeomin and Dysport™?

Neuromodulators like Botox® Cosmetic, Nuceiva™, Xeomin®, and Dysport™ may be the answer. These popular injectable treatments work by temporarily relaxing muscles that contribute to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

While Botox® Cosmetic is the most well-known brand, Nuceiva™, Xeomin®, and Dysport™ offer similar benefits. During a consultation, our licensed nurse can help you determine which neuromodulator is best suited for your individual needs and aesthetic goals.

How Do Botox, Nuceiva, Xeomin and Dysport Work?

Anti-wrinkle injections work by temporarily blocking signals to muscles which cause them to contract and create wrinkles. This ends up producing fewer noticeable lines and wrinkles in the injected areas without changing the structure of your face. The goal with these treatments is to prevent wrinkles and potentially soften existing fine lines, leaving you with youthful and glowing skin. All 4 treatments are both safe and clinically proven for preventing wrinkles.

Neuromodulators can only be administered by health care professionals. Worthy Skin & Beauty Bar is proud to have an experienced nurse injector that has been working with injectables for many years.

What Areas Can They Be Used?

Anti-wrinkle injections have been used to successfully soften and prevent wrinkles in many areas of the body, however some of the most common areas include:

  • Forehead: They can work wonders on the forehead. It can stop horizontal creases from forming on the forehead due to constant raising of the eyebrows. Most people require between 14 to 25 units of Botox® in this area.
  • Frown Lines: Frowning can cause deep wrinkles in the forehead and the area between the eyebrows. These treatments can relax those muscles to create dramatic improvements within a short time. Most people require 10 to 25 units of Botox® in this area.
  • Bunny Lines: These lines appear on your nose when squinting. Similar to chin dimples these lines can be reduced by injecting your nose (nasalis muscle). Most of our clients require 8 to 16 units of Botox® for this treatment.
  • Eyes (Crow’s Feet): Many clients are surprised to learn that smiling, squinting and even laughing can end up producing Crows Feet lines. It works because it helps to relax the muscles around the eyes which produce a smoothing effect with many wrinkles and lines disappearing. Generally between 9 to 15 units of Botox® is required per eye.
  • Lip Flip: Anti-wrinkle injections can be used above the lips to prevent the upper lip from curling under when smiling. Clients who find that their upper lip disappears while smiling and talking will get the appearance of a fuller upper lip. A lip flip has limited effect at rest.
  • Chin Dimples: They can also assist with dimpling of the skin on your chin. These dimples are produced by the mentalis muscle contracting and can be mitigated by injecting Botox® to weaken the muscle. Generally clients need between 6 and 10 units of Botox®.
  • Neck Lines (Platysma Bands): Vertical neck bands are the result of your platysma muscles contracting which produce the prominent vertical bands in the neck. These treatments can often be effective at softening these bands however most clients require 30 to 60 units of Botox® for this treatment to be effective.

How Long After Injection Does It Take To See Results?

The results of anti-wrinkle injections will not be immediately visible after your treatment. Full results can take up to 14 days post treatment, but most clients start to slowly see results after just a couple of days. After the neuromodulator has fully set in, you should notice a dramatic reduction in the appearance of expression lines due to lack of full muscle movement. Some clients will notice that their fine lines have softened, even at rest.

Botox, Nuceiva, Xeomin and Dysport Recovery & Results

Without a doubt the most incredible part of anti-wrinkle injections is how quickly the treatment is completed. You can literally walk into our Waterloo location on your lunch and be done in no time at all. Remember though, it will take a few days to see the results with maximum benefits showing 2 weeks after injection.

Even though this is popularly known as a lunch break procedure, you must take caution that you avoid any strenuous activity or exercise for at least 24 hours after your treatment. It is also important that you keep your head elevated 4 hours post treatment (i.e., no laying down), and do not touch or massage the area.

We will make sure you’re fully prepared and informed so you can get the absolute most out of every treatment. Is Botox, Nuceiva, Xeomin and Dysport Safe?

Our experienced injector can help you choose the best option during a complimentary consultation, where we’ll discuss your goals and answer any questions you have about these wrinkle-smoothing treatments.

How Long Do The Results Last?

This always comes down to the individual; however you can typically expect results to last approximately 3 to 4 months. Some clients see long lasting results and some shorter; however the majority fall in the 3 to 4 month range.

How Is Botox, Nuceiva, Xeomin and Dysport Administered?

Anti-wrinkle injections are administered through a small number of injections under the skin. The majority of clients tolerate these without any issues or major complaints. The actual injection takes less than 5 to 10 minutes and the treatment results generally become visibly evident within a few days; however, to see the full benefit of the treatment it does take a full 2 weeks.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Botox, Nuceiva, Xeomin and Dysport?

There are many different reasons to get anti-wrinkle injections! You’re probably a great candidate if you notice lines appear when you make different expressions with your face. For example, 11’s when you frown, horizontal lines when you raise your eyebrows, or crow’s feet lines around the eyes when you smile.

You might be a great candidate for a Lip Flip if you find your upper lip tends to curl under or hide when you smile. They can also be administered to the masseter muscles as a treatment for TMJ and headaches.

It’s a common misconception that neuromodulators are only for mature skin. They can be a valuable tool for preventative care as well! Botox® Cosmetic is a fantastic option to start addressing expression lines before they become deeply etched. We welcome patients of all ages (over 18) and genders seeking to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance with any of our other neuromodulator options.

What Is “Baby Botox®”?

“Baby Botox” is a common term for young people who get this treatment. It is actually recommended to start getting anti-wrinkle injections before static wrinkles begin to form, so we are all for the “Baby Botox”! It is important to know that the injected solution or technique is not at all different for younger clients.

What Is The Difference Between Botox, Nuceiva, Xeomin and Dysport?

While Botox Cosmetic®, Nuceiva™, Xeomin®, and Dysport™ all belong to the neuromodulator family and share the core function of temporarily relaxing muscles to reduce wrinkles, there are some subtle differences to consider.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Brand Recognition: Botox Cosmetic® is the most widely known brand, but the others offer comparable effectiveness.
  • Formulation: Nuceiva™ and Dysport™ have slightly different formulations that may lead to variations in diffusion patterns and how quickly results appear.
  • Additives: Xeomin® is unique for being free of inactive ingredients, which may be appealing to those concerned about potential allergic reactions to those additives.

Ultimately, the best choice depends on your individual needs and preferences. A consultation with our experienced injector at Worthy Skin & Beauty Bar can help you determine which option is most suitable for your desired outcome and any specific considerations you may have.

Who Should Not Use Botox, Nuceiva, Xeomin and Dysport?

  • You are pregnant or nursing
  • You have any type of neuromusclar disorder

AFTER CARE RECOMMENDATIONS

Minimize Movement

Avoid excessive rubbing, touching, or manipulating the treated area for the first few hours. This allows the Botox to settle in properly.

Upright Posture

Maintain an upright position (avoid lying flat) for 4-6 hours after your treatment. This helps prevent Botox from migrating to unintended areas.

No Strenuous Activity

Refrain from strenuous exercise or activities that significantly elevate your heart rate for 24 hours. This allows the product to settle in and minimize potential bruising.

Makeup Application

Wait at least 4-6 hours before applying makeup to the treated area. This allows the injection sites to heal and minimizes the risk of infection.

Manage Discomfort

You may experience mild tenderness, redness, or swelling at the injection sites. Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol) can help manage any discomfort. Avoid taking blood thinners like ibuprofen (Advil) for at least 24 hours after treatment.

Hydrate

Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day to stay hydrated and support your body’s natural healing process.

Botox Cosmetic®, Nuceiva™, Xeomin®, and Dysport™ Treatment FAQ

How Painful Is Botox® and Dysport™?

Anti-wrinkle injections feel like quick pinch. Many patients are pleasantly surprised by how little pain they feel. The majority of our patients have no complaints after the injection and easily continue on with their day.

How Long Does Botox Cosmetic®, Nuceiva™, Xeomin®, and Dysport™ Last?

The results typically last between 3 and 4 months.

Where does the Botox Cosmetic®, Nuceiva™, Xeomin®, and Dysport™ go after it is injected?

It stays locally in the muscle where it was injected. But there is a very minimal risk of migration if the area is rubbed or excessively touched right after your treatment. This is the reason we advise our patients to avoid touching the area for 4 hours post injection. However long term, the product is simply metabolized and broken down into a natural by-product in the weeks and months after your treatment.

Does Botox® make you look older after it wears off?

Contrary to a common misconception, Botox® won’t make you look older once the effects wear off. As the product fades, your muscles gradually regain their strength, and your facial expressions will return to normal. The lines and wrinkles you had before the treatment will reappear.

However, there’s a silver lining! Consistent use offers a potential long-term benefit. Over time, the targeted muscles may weaken slightly, which can lead to a reduction in the severity of wrinkles and potentially extend the time between treatments.
