Keep reading to get the scoop and book your first appointment totally prepared.

Botox Basics: How Does It Work?

Think of your skin like a piece of paper. The more you fold the paper on the same line, the deeper the fold becomes.

That’s how wrinkles form—from facial muscles contracting when we smile, frown, or squint our eyes. We call these types of wrinkles dynamic wrinkles, because they appear when you make facial expressions.

As we age, our skin loses its elasticity, deepening the dynamic wrinkles. And that’s where Botox comes in.

A popular injectable treatment that’s been around since the 1970s, Botox reduces the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, and can even treat a variety of medical conditions.

Botox works by relaxing the facial muscles responsible for wrinkles. Formulated with a small dose of botulinum toxin, a type of neuromodulator, Botox interrupts the nerve signals that tell your facial muscles to contract. This results in a smoother, more rested appearance.

Why We Love Botox (And So Will You)

Botox near Kitchener offers a solution to wrinkles and fine lines, but it’s also so much more than that. With so many reasons to love Botox, it’s no wonder it’s among our most trusted aesthetic treatments.

Reason #1: Botox Can Prevent More Wrinkles

Remember the paper analogy? Because Botox relaxes facial muscles, it also helps prevent new lines or wrinkles from forming.

Even if you don’t have many wrinkles yet, Botox helps you retain your youthful appearance for longer, and may reduce the frequency and intensity of injections in the long run.

Reason #2: It’s a Quick Treatment

We call Botox a “lunchtime treatment” for a reason. A Botox treatment session only takes about 15 to 25 minutes, making it easy to pop into the clinic on your lunch break.

Reason #3: There’s No Downtime

After treatment, you can return to work and normal activities right away. There’s no downtime for Botox near Kitchener, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on anything.

Reason #4: Results Appear Rapidly

Botox results can appear at varying times, depending on the type and number of injections you receive. However, clients can typically expect to start seeing results within 2 to 3 days, with full results developing after 2 weeks.

Reason #5: Botox Pairs Well With Other Treatments

We can combine Botox near Kitchener with many other aesthetic treatments for comprehensive enhancements, including:

  • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL): Our Lumecca IPL improves skin tone and texture by reducing sun damage, dark spots, redness, and wrinkles.
  • Microneedling: Microneedling helps refine skin, targeting acne scars, wrinkles, and enlarged pores with precision.
  • RF Microneedling: Morpheus8 combines the power of radiofrequency (RF) energy with microneedling for powerful skin tightening and transformation.
  • Medical-Grade Skincare: Fantastic skin starts with a great at-home skincare. Add our medical-grade skincare products into your routine to improve the quality of your skin and prolong your results from aesthetic treatments.
  • Dermal Fillers: While Botox reduces dynamic wrinkles, dermal fillers (or cheek fillers) help “fill in” static wrinkles, or wrinkles that remain regardless of facial expressions. We often pair Botox with cheek filler for a two-pronged approach to facial enhancement.

Depending on the treatments paired together, we may space them out at least 2 weeks apart to give your skin time to heal between appointments.

Reason #6: We Can Completely Customize Your Treatment

Whether you’re looking for a subtle, natural refresh or you want to get totally frozen, Botox offers a highly customizable wrinkle treatment. During your appointment, your injector can adjust the placement and dosage of your injections to match your goals.

Reason #7: Botox Boosts Confidence in a Big Way

We love Botox near Kitchener because of how our clients love the way they look after treatment! We’re all about loving yourself, inside and out, and Botox helps you show up as your best, most confident self every day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox

Still have some questions about Botox? We have answers.

What areas can I get Botox in?

We can use Botox to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the upper and lower face, including:

  • Forehead lines: Horizontal lines that run across the forehead.
  • Frown lines: Vertical wrinkles that appear between the eyebrows.
  • Crow’s feet: Lines that develop at the outer corners of the eyes.
  • Bunny lines: Lines that form on the bridge of the nose.
  • Lip lines: Vertical lines on or above the upper lip.
  • Marionette lines: Lines that appear from the corners of the mouth to the chin.
  • Chin wrinkles: Vertical lines along the chin.
  • Neck lines: Vertical wrinkles that run down the neck.

What’s the deal with Dysport, Nuceiva, and Xeomin?

Botox is a brand of neuromodulator, the same way Kleenex is a brand of tissue. At Worthy Skin & Beauty Bar, we offer the neuromodulator brands Dysport, Nuceiva, and Xeomin. They work the same way as Botox, but have slightly different effects.

Here’s a look into why we like Dysport, Nuceiva, and Xeomin, and how we use each one to achieve different aesthetic goals.

  • Dysport: Dysport provides quick results, in just 2 to 3 days (compared to Botox’s 3 to 7). Dysport also diffuses easily over large areas, making it ideal for addressing forehead wrinkles with fewer injections. Dysport’s tendency to diffuse from the injection site also makes it perfect for creating a softer, more natural look.
  • Nuceiva: On the other hand, Nuceiva diffuses less than Botox. This makes Nuceiva our go-to for precise treatment, because it stays localized to the injection area.
  • Xeomin: Finally, we use Xeomin for clients who’ve developed a tolerance to Botox. Xeomin’s formula doesn’t include accessory proteins like Botox, which lowers the risk of your body developing antibodies that could make future injections less effective.

During your consultation with one of our injection specialists, we discuss your wrinkle-reduction goals and select an injectable option that works best for you. We may also combine injection types, depending on your concerns and areas you want to treat.

How often can I get Botox?

We only administer injections every 90 days at the earliest to prevent your body from developing antibodies. If you get too many injections in too short a time, it can make the Botox less effective.

What happens if I stop getting Botox?

If you stop receiving Botox injections, the regular aging process continues uninterrupted. Once Botox wears off, clients see a gradual return of wrinkles as muscles regain their ability to contract.

It’s important to note that stopping Botox injections does not accelerate or alter the natural aging process. Wrinkles continue to form as they would normally.

We often notice once clients start getting Botox near Kitchener, they want to continue because of how amazing their skin looks!
